Light Cooking

In order to lose weight, light cooking is the key to a successful regime. That, and enough exercise. There are many diets that anyone can try and use, but a healthy diet and sufficient exercise are what are needed to lose those pounds. There are a number of tips to remain on a low fat diet, some are obvious, others less so.

It is still possible to have meat when on a low fat diet, as you can simply choose one of the leaner cuts. Particularly good in this case is chicken or game such as venison if you are so inclined. Some people do not like the taste of gamey meat but venison is one of the leanest meats available so if you have never tried it then it is worth considering. If cooking chicken then removing the skin will be beneficial. If want to eat some of your favourite foods such as sausages then light cooking under the grill is farĀ  better than frying.

If you must fry an item of food, then light cooking in some olive or groundnut oil is a better alternative to vegetable or sunflower oil. Using groundnut oil also has the added benefit of not affecting the flavour of the food it is fried in.

Some things are definitely best avoided if you are using a light cooking diet. If making a sandwich avoid mayonnaise as it is particularly fattening. Instead you could use a low fat, light cheese spread. This works surprisingly well.

You can of course make sure that you eat foods that are low in fat, but also you should ensure that you do not leave yourself hungry and open to the risk that you might gorge on some foods. It is important to eat breakfast every day, but only if you make sure that you are consuming low release carbohydrates as these will help you feel full for longer. Light cooking foods in this way has the benefit preventing you from snacking; these foods include oat based cereals, the reason why porridge is beneficial. Do not skip meals; eat small, healthy meals often instead of starving yourself all day and eating something large in the evening. Many research studies cite the importance of not eating after a certain time in the evening, for example six or seven pm. As none of these studies are conclusive it is perhaps better to give this approach some trepidation.

Light cooking does not have to mean that you have to eat boring, plain meals. There are healthy alternatives to almost every food you can think off, and healthy ways to cook all of those. It is also worth bearing in mind that it does no harm to give yourself a treat once in a while.
